The vet came Wednesday and put Brownie to sleep forever. He kept falling and couldn't get himself up anymore. He was loosing weight and very weak. It was time for him to leave us.
It's been a very hard week... so I will just leave you with some photos, and some memories, from the day we picked him up at the goat farm.
He was a most handsome goat.
With bright eyes and a little smile.
He was "show' goat quality and knew it.
We had four Nubian wethers. Brownie was always smiling for the camera.
Bart comforted Brownie when he had to have them cut off because they were growing in the wrong directions.
But when the accident happen, Bart and Freckles started picking on Brownie. At first they were OK and seemed concerned, but then they started knocking him around and wouldn't leave him alone. Because of this abuse, we gave them to another farm. After that Brownie and Murphy became good friends and Murphy kind of took Brownie under his care.
They were buddies. and Brownie loved his Murph'. He followed Murphy everywhere.
We lost Murphy to urinary stones on Memorial Day and I think that Brownie started going down hill from that day.He lost weight and then, worse, he kept falling and getting stuck in the fence. He couldn't get up. We would help him and, for a while, he would stay on his feet. But, this didn't last and he would fall again.
Memories...They could be wild things when they were young.
Almost magical...
I miss all of this goat activity.
The goat run, their house and the pasture lay empty now. It's filled with sadness down there.
Brownie was the last.
Goodbye, sweet goat.
I am so very sorry. It is hard to lose a good friend.
ReplyDeleteOh, I am so sorry. Two well-loved, sweet beings in such a short time equals a huge loss. What dear goats they surely were, and so very loving themselves. Their pictures tell us so. It must be terribly hard for you right now. I hope the days ahead are so filled with sweet memories that there is no more room for sadness. Loving Buddy has made me even more aware of what our animal friends bring to our lives. It is immeasurable. Best thoughts to you.

We are so sorry about Brownie. Can't believe how hard it must be. You guys have lost so many of your dear pets lately. You are such animal people and have a lot of love to give them.
ReplyDeleteSo, so sorry. Death is such a painful part of life...but what they bring to our lives is worth the pain they leave behind. We can only afford to lose these little pieces of ourselves with them because they helped fill us up.

ReplyDeleteMy prayers are with you. It is very hard to lose a 4-legged friend.
You have an empty nest now Farm lady, it's hard to believe, & you went from 4 to two to none. My dear friend BJ lost two precious canine friends the past 31 days, it's hard to understand.
ReplyDeleteI always fall back on Irving Townsend, have you read "Separate Lifetimes"?
"We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more fragile than our own, live within a fragile circle easily and often breached.Unable to accept the awful gaps we still would live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan".
Big hugs.xxx
I am so very sad to read about dear Brownie. He had the most amazing smile and funny personality. I can hardly bear to think about how you are feeling right now - these beautiful animal friends of ours, they become family to us, part of us - and saying goodbye to them is the worst possible loss.
ReplyDeleteMy heart is sending your heart hugs today.
