A few Words

Words always seem so pitiful when death comes. I haven't much to say except that today is filled with tears. Sweet Maggie died Monday evening.
The vet came out to the house. She went peacefully, on our front porch, in the late afternoon sun. The Prospector dug her a grave, surrounded it with rocks and we will make a sign with her name on it soon .
I got home late last night from my friend "C"s.
This morning I cut some daffodils and took Carl up to the hill above the orchard. The Prospector was laying rocks around Maggie's grave. It was beautiful up there. Maggie always loved to run up the road to this spot.

We will miss this wonderful old dog. I think Carl is wondering where she is. He had such a serious look on his face up there. One I haven't seen before.
Goodbye Maggie, we will miss you so..., be good and run, again, like the wind.

The final lesson took a while
But finally she understood...
"Is it three days, not counting hols?
Then come and meet me in the wood." ~anonymous~

  1. I don't understand it. I guess it's for you but I am honestly sitting here crying. I hate losing a dog, even in the best circumstances. It just breaks my heart.
Your being so good about it, you haven't even had time to grieve your mother and now the dog. God give you peace dear friend.

  2. Look at that sweet grey face. You are a beautiful girl, Maggie. I’m sending kisses to heaven; hold still for just a second and they will land right on your shiny black nose. I didn't get the chance to meet you and it makes me sad that you are gone. I know your Mom’s heart is aching and I shed many tears for her. With love from "Auntie" Dawn

  3. Sending big Hugs to you. I hope Maggie is frolicking with our dear Nika. They take such a huge piece of you with them. But so worth it to have their love and devotion. WOnderful to have a place to visit her. Our dog was cremated. We will always miss them, but they are forever with us.

  4. I am sorry about the loss of your dog. I understand what you are going through. The last one we had I had to take him to be put to sleep. Never will I do that again and I am not having any more pets.

  9. I sent you a post on my blog. The words for this song are about a boy dog but you can think of Maggie. If you get a chance to listen to the song, its very pretty and reminded me of what you're going through. Unfortunately I am a bit of a dunce on putting the song up from my own library and youtube didn't have anything for it. Anyway my thoughts are with you all.

  10. My heart aches for you and the prospector. We are getting to the point where we can talk about Buddy without tearing up. Yet still so many things remind me of him and without fail I turn to look for him. The prospector chose a beautiful resting place for your girl. I am sure that Moke was at Heavens gate to welcome Maggie.By now I would even say he has showed her all of the really good spots for taking naps. Love and hugs for you and the prospector Ellie Mae.

  11. This is so sad loosing Maggie! I came by to say hello and see why you needed my joke so much this week and now I see why.....
Honey I am so sorry but I love where you laid sweet Maggie to rest.
I hate to say this but first thing this morning I see on Gwens site A Charming Home that Maggie won her giveaway and my eyes got real big and of course I am excited.
Then I come over here and the first thing I read is Maggie died this week and my heart skipped a beat...girl you scared me...
    Love you

  13. It is a beautiful place to rest. When we lost our Murphy, our dogs would sit at her grave when we would walk by. They miss their pack. Time will heal but keeping the memories is what keeps them with us all the time.

  15. We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached.

Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way.

We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan........

  16. "It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are." -Unknown
