Springtime gifts

Oh dear... I haven't posted since after Christmas. I can't believe after so many years that I can be this neglectful about something that I enjoyed so much. I make promises that I will write, but I don't.
I love this place and I will always return to it. It's my sanctuary of words, images and thoughts. It has grieved with me and laughed with me. I live in fear of loosing all of this. I need to find a blog to book site and save these blog posts for my grandchildren.
I need to give more time to this and less to Facebook. Facebook eats time but it's easy and quick. Facebook responds almost instantaneously and it keeps me connected to my friends and family. I admit that I have kind of an addiction to it... OK, yes, it's an addiction.
This is not a promise but more a way of saying that I will be here as much as I can. Everything moves faster now and I'm moving slower. The days are filled with animals, friends, family and my life, with all its old age aches and pains... but I'm happy.

So,  just when I thought that things were slowing down here and the excitement of raising animals was basically over, except for the chickens and our dogs... The Prospector decided that goats would, again, be a good idea. I was delighted.
Well, on Saturday, we picked up three new baby Pygmy goats. My sister was here to help. She helped paint the new goat house and she helped us bring them home.
The adventure begins again and hopefully we will be more fortunate with these little guys as they become a part of our lives. I never got over loosing Brownie and Murphy. The sadness clung to the fencing and empty goat run. It never really went away until these little goats came on Saturday. Now, only the good memories of the wonderful, magical Murphy and our beloved Brownie will stay with us and the space will be filled with these joyful little Pygmy goats.
I will post some photos and call it a night.

Two of the babies are not named yet, but this one above, is Moo... because he looks like a little cow.

    1. Thanks Suz, I think we were meant to have goats. They are special beings and make our lives happier. In my 71st year of life, this does seem like "a new lease on life". I guess I am truly a crazy goat lady. What can I say.

  3. I've wondered if you would ever get any more goats. Yay :-).

Some things I've picked up that might help prevent problems is no alfalfa or any other rich hay, no grain once they are grown up, keep loose salt out alongside your mineral mix, don't let your water source get too cold in the winter. They'll drink more if it's a little warmer. This has helped keep my sheep boys in good order. I think sheep and goats are similar enough in this situation. Just a few thoughts...from a non-vet... ;-).

    Have fun with them :-D.

    1. Thank you sweetie. I can't tell you how wonderful it is to look out there, from the house, and see goats jumping around. I'm in love again. Thanks for the info. I will relay all of this to Steve, in hopes that we never have a tragedy like we had with Brownie and Murph' again.

  5. I know as a fellow blogger how much time it takes to sit and write but keep going Connie!!! Remember when we used to always connect this way? Face Book is a time sucker too but it's more like fast food than fine dining. So many days I threaten myself to remove myself from face book and get back to the basics...why don't I then? We lived without it for so long, why can't we live without it now?
ANYWAY....the kids are adorable and I look forward to seeing more posts on your blog about them!!! Hows about combining Brownie and Murphys name somehow to name the other two? Braun and Minnie???? Brave you guys for having goats again...and lucky!!!

  9. It was like a breath of fresh air, coming back and seeing that you're still blogging. I haven't been as faithful, for a lot of little reasons, but it's my dream to get back into the swing again.
I just loved seeing the new baby goats, and I'm hoping to get a few for myself, this springtime! I've missed you, Lady!
