Spring has returned. The Earth is like a child that knows poems. ~Rainer Maria Rilke

Joni Mitchell in my head

I've had a song going though my head all morning. I haven't had a song come to me like this for a long time.
I can hear every word, every tone, the key and that voice.
Do you remember? Joni Mitchell sang it. Do you remember the music? The lyrics?

Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way

Oh but now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I've changed
Well something's lost but something's gained
In living every day

I've looked at life from both sides now
From WIN and LOSE and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all

I've looked at life from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all.

(This is only the last half of the song.)

I haven't heard it for years.  I don't know where this came from or why it's in my head today. But, here it is.
How I remember Joni M.

Growing older with grace and music...
And the beauty of being an older woman.
Not sure why this song has come inside of me today... but it's here and it feels good.

  2. I am not familiar with this song but it does have some very good lyrics. It is funny how a song will come to mind and stay in your head for a day or more. Have a blessed day. Madeline

  3. I remember that song and Joni Mitchell. I suspect we could spend an afternoon listening to the GOOD old music! Love your cheery colors and header; it's making me feel all springy! And best of all is that wise quote from Chuang Tzu. Ain't it the truth!!!

  5. if you have to have a song running through your head I can't think of anything better than this Joni song. Love it and was thinking about it in the car a few days ago. Maybe you picked up on my waves of sunshine.

  6. boy did I miss you! I spent some time reading back entries and I see that we are, indeed, on the same page! I sang the Joni song as I read and remembered the BLUE album and got goosebumps! My fav is 'A Case of You' followed by 'Little Green'.
I have been ruminating over my decades of fiber work and why I feel so empty, so late to the party. I look at the young women, new mothers, who are creating lovely work and mothering AND staying home and feel sad, nearly bitter because my choices indicated that I would have to be a single parent and fulltime worker. Now, I want to live. Leave this menial job - dig my hands deeply into the soil, throw my head back and howl.
Thanks so much for listening and relating!

  7. Joni has been a constant through my whole life. I grew up listening to her with my mom singing to her records and I kept on listening to her right up until this moment. She was defintely the pioneer of women folk singers. Her art work is amazing as well. Funny how you get a song like that that pops in out of no where...Have you ever seen the movie "life as a house" with Kevin Kline? There's some beautiful references to his life with that very song. I loved the old version but her later one with an orchestra is simply serene and so poignant for her at this point in life.

  8. Brought back a lot of memories and of course I started singing right along with your post. And remebered this part " Bows and flows of angel hair and ice cream castles in the air " I really miss listening to Joni M. (I will remedy that) Nice
