A small bird found dead

I found you lying on my workbench
dead.... in desperate, peaceful stillness.
Then asked who listens.., why is this?
And,in my heart,no answer came.

I found you lying on my workbench
dead..... with wings in flight and open eyes.
I lifted you up, so cold, so stiff...
buried you and said a prayer.

I found you lying on my workbench
dead.... a lovely, brown and feathered bird
and once again I wondered, with regret,
If life is all we know and yet.....

  1. To know that you treated this bird so specially, to be carried with tender hands...

So very kind, despite the wrenching find, to follow what your heart commands...

To hold this one unto your breast, then tenderly put it to rest,
Sending it home, no more to roam, but singing it's song to the very Best.

Thank you for treating all so special.

  2. You are a sweet woman. I know how you feel yesterday we were driving and a bird crashed into our windshield I'm sure it was killed. It was so weird. Birds don't ordinarily have trouble navigating. It made me feel sad too. Thoughtful of you to bury it.

  4. Thanks for sharing the story. It's so interesting that it was dead with its wings in flight and it's eyes open.
    Hmmm... the mysteries

  5. I think it flew home to it's maker, no sparrow falls that the Creator does not know.

  6. Poor little bird. I know it's part of life, but it still is sad. Last year I found two little Lesser Goldfinches dead in my yard within days of each other. I carefully picked them up and buried them. It was so amazing to hold them; they were literally "light as a feather". That is such an unusual pose though - almost as if it just dropped from the sky mid-flight. At least it landed in a good spot - that you would find it and treat it so tenderly.

Hope you had a good Easter and a nice time with your mom, sister and son.
